New Toy

There are two reasons for the title of this image. Firstly, in anticipation of the arrival of our little bundle of joy, we bought a digital compact camera. We wanted something small that we could have on hand at all times and a hefty SLR and selection of lenses does not qualify as ‘on hand’. We chose the Sony HX50 for its ease of use (my wife likes point-and-shoot) and its great features. So far, I’m very happy with it – I just wish it saved to RAW.

The second reason for the title is that this shot was grabbed with the new camera whilst walking the dog on Boxing Day. I noticed this chap taking pictures and something about the way he was using the camera told me it was a new toy received the day before. Whether it was or not, it’s always feels a little subversive and fun photographing the photographer.

I love this composition. I just wish there was a little more detail in the rock or what ever he is standing on.

Great to see you getting out and shooting Adrian. Great composition, and I like the lack of detail in the rock – seen one and you’ve seen ‘em all! and it makes for some useful negative space.

Too true, there’s always has to be compromises when little bundles of joy appear – and RAW isn’t so difficult to give up. As a matter of interest, having preached that equipment is the least important part of good photography, I’ve decided to use just my Galaxy phone for my Social media sites…it’s a real challenge, but very enjoyable.
