This is the start of a new series.
The series is derived from a solo photo-walk I did when I was recently in London with a bit of time on my hands. I was staying near Waterloo Station and my primary goal was to photograph The Shard, London’s newest skyscraper. I decided to walk from the flat to London Bridge where The Shard is, a walk of just over a mile. I’m glad I chose to walk because I discovered a rich and fascinating area I had not previously explored, despite having lived in London for over 10 years!
I’ll save accounts of what I found so interesting for later posts, suffice to say that the South Bank of the Thames – where I was walking – has a colourful history as the somewhat less glamorous side of London!
This first image introduces The Shard and a sense of location and scale. It also introduces the sense of the “new alongside the old” which, as you’ll see, it’s a defining feature of this series.
