I think I have mentioned before that the place we stay in Italy – my mother-in-law’s little bolt hole – is on the top of a a prominent hill. A modest house, it is perfectly situated to provide a vast, panoramic view of the valley and mountain range on the other side.
Soon after we arrived at the house for our most recent visit we were taking in the view from the balcony as a huge thundercloud loomed behind us and into the valley. As the rain erupted, standing at the open balcony doors, we felt completely immersed within the tempest. We could see the sheets of rain being blown over us down into the valley and the cloud swirling just above us. Beyond the clouds and rain was still bright sunshine. This light shining through from behind made the experience all the more moving.
