This is a part of Great Zimbabwe, the ruins of a late Iron Age African city from which the country of Zimbabwe takes its name. I have a number of images which I’ll share here so will provide more details about this amazing place in subsequent posts. Suffice to observe for now that the main structure visible here is the Great Enclosure which is a part of the Valley Complex. The ruins of a multitude of dry stone wall structures are visible around the Great Enclosure, particularly to the left. The photograph was taken from the Hill Complex which is around the same size again.
It is a vast complex which my wife felt was more impressive than Machu Picchu!
