The Temple of Science

“A finely tempered nature longs to escape from his noisy cramped surroundings into the silence of the high mountains where the eye ranges freely through the still pure air and fondly traces out the restful contours apparently built for eternity.” (Albert Einstein, The Principles of Research, 1918)

In the swirling mists of an ever changing and uncertain world, it is a welcome relief to catch a glimpse of the permanent. Something you can rely on when you need to find your way home.

This is Monte Cetona rising above morning mist in Tuscany, the same mountain glimpsed in the previous post.

Beautiful and simple. Very calm image, and you can just see the details of the mountainside in the distance. Lovely photograph!

I really like this one Adrian. The use of monochrome has reduced the subject to shapes and tones, recognisable, but indefinable. Minimalism on a large scale!

Wonderful simplicity and mood, perfect rendition of “the silence of the high mountains”. These must be some very old ranges, geologically speaking, judging how smooth the peaks appear. Reminds me of my favorite range in the US, the Southern Appalachian mountains :^)

  4. Une atmosphère mystérieuse, ça me plait ce genre de cliché, bien réalisé !

  5. This is beautiful! Even a little more would be far too much…

lovely click… the simplicity reflects the mountains in many ways…

Really nice.. Like that this is such a simple image. Looks great!

Very nice work – and I _know_ how difficult that type of subject is!
Small criticism: for my tastes the borders are a bit too toned down, especially left and right.
